If you don't know, yo girl's guilty pleasure is french fries, all day long, errrrrrydayyyyy. But, obvi, if I ate them that often, you'd have to roll my round potato ass everywhere. So instead, I create just-as-yummy substitutes that still satisfy my palate while keeping the food guilt at bay.
If you're on the journey to healing your relationship with food, it's so, so important not to feel deprived. Controlling and restricting food (especially carbs and other foods that were once "off limits") are behaviors that keep you stuck in the cycle of emotional and binge eating. The key to overcoming the fight against food is to allow your body to consume what you're craving. I know: this can be SCARY AS HELL for those of you just starting this process (a full blog is to come on how to do this properly & fearlessly). But for now, I suggest finding new alternatives to your "off limit" foods (you know the delicious, calorie-dense, greasy ones that you hid in the closet and binged night after night) that will trick your mind into thinking you're actually having them.
Insert 👉🏽 my bomb.com sweet potato recipe I came up with myself. The next time you're craving binge-worthy carbs, this snack will do the trick.
🍠 1-2 regular-size sweet potatoes
🍠 Extra-virgin olive oil
🍠 Vegan butter (optional)
🍠 Pink Himalayan salt
🍠 Garlic powder or fresh minced garlic
🍠 PAM or other non-stick spray
🍠 Pre-heat your oven to 410 degrees F
🍠 Wash sweet potatoes
🍠 Wrap sweet potatoes in a paper towel and microwave for 2 min to soften (if you skip this step, good luck cutting them 😏)
🍠 Slice the sweet potatoes how you prefer (try a different style fry every time you bake: waffle, shoestring, steak, regular, etc.)
🍠 In a bowl, mix cut sweet potatoes with EVOO (extra-virgin olive oil), pink Himalayan salt, pepper, garlic, thyme and any other spices you like. Sometimes I melt a little vegan butter and add to the mix to give it more taste and moisture (up to you!).
🍠 Spray baking sheet with PAM so the sweet potatoes don't stick. I've also put foil down and sprayed the foil—whatever works best for you.
🍠 Cook for 25-ish minutes or until you get them to your desired texture (I like ‘em CRISPYYY!). Check the fries every 10 minutes and turn them over/move them around—this ensures the fries are being cooked from every angle.
